Ginger Rothrock is a Senior Director at HG Ventures, the corporate venture investing arm of The Heritage Group. The Heritage Group is a family-owned business managing over 30 companies specialising in heavy construction and materials, environmental services, and specialty chemicals.
Before joining HG Ventures, Ginger served as the Vice President of Technology and Commercialisation at RTI International where she oversaw the commercialisation of a 1 billion $ portfolio of R&D. Ginger also successfully founded two companies and is an accomplished scientist. Ginger holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and previously worked as a Research Associate for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Ginger shares her story of going from being a scientist to being an entrepreneur and later on being a Corporate VC. She shares her bad experiences and the lessons she learned from being an entrepreneur. Ginger talks about how being a scientist and founding startups herself helped her being a better investor. Ginger talks about how HG Ventures tries to positively impact the usually very unsustainable industry they are in. We learn how sustainability impacts investments in heavy construction and materials, environmental services, and specialty chemicals. She shares with us how she approaches and judges the merit of companies and founder teams. And of course, she tells a ton of valuable lessons and gives great advice.
